Watchdocs
A GitHub Action and CLI that reads your code changes and opens a PR with the docs updates they need. It never auto-merges.
The problem
Docs fall behind the code within days, and most tools only update the API reference. Guides, error pages and quickstarts go stale and need a person to notice.
What I'm building
Watchdocs watches pushes and pull requests, decides whether a change needs docs and edits the right files. That includes guides, errors and quickstarts, along with failure docs for auth failures, rate limits, pagination, retries and empty responses. It regenerates llms.txt and the OpenAPI file in the same PR, then opens a PR for the team to review and merge.
How it works
- Watch. A GitHub Action reads the
git diffon push or pull request. - Filter. It runs only when the OpenAPI spec or route and controller files changed. Tests, CSS and internal utilities are ignored.
- Map. It builds a map from each endpoint to the docs files that mention it.
- Edit. An LLM gets the old doc, a structured change list and the new spec, and returns updated markdown for the related sections only.
- PR. It creates a branch, commits the edits and opens a PR with a summary.
Scope for version one
A CLI and a GitHub Action, configured in JSON. No UI and no docs site builder. It batches changes so one push does not create a pile of PRs.
Status
Planned. The spec is done and the code has not started.
